The recognition granted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry in 2014 assigned the Consortium responsibility for the protection, monitoring and promotion of Aceto Balsamico di Modena.
Protecting excellence means safeguarding its name, origin and value over time. This is a commitment that is renewed every day and that sometimes takes us far beyond our borders.
The Consortium protects Aceto Balsamico di Modena IGP at every stage of its presence on the market, monitoring the correct use of the Geographical Indication and taking action to protect it from infringements, imitations or improper use, both in Italy and abroad, as well as online.
This activity includes monitoring the commercial market, verifying the correct labeling and presentation of the product, and combating practices that could damage its reputation, image or value.
These activities are also carried out by the Consortium’s inspection officers, who are qualified as public security officers and operate to protect both the product and consumers.
The protection of the Geographical Indication is further strengthened through dialog and cooperation with national and international organizations, such as OriGIn Italia – Associazione Italiana Consorzi Indicazioni Geografiche (OriGIn Italia – Italian Association of Geographical Indication Consortia) and OriGIn – Organization for an International Geographical Indications Network.
Cooperation with the competent public authorities is equally essential: ICQRF – Istituto Controllo Qualità e Repressione delle Frodi (Central Inspectorate for the Protection of Quality and Fraud Prevention of Agri-Food Products), NAC – Nuclei Antifrodi Carabinieri (Anti-Fraud Units of the Carabinieri), NAF – Nucleo Agroalimentare e Forestale (Agri-Food and Forestry Unit).
The Consortium also safeguards the Production Specifications and oversees their development, ensuring that their rules continue to protect the product’s identity, quality, and distinctive characteristics.
The certification of Aceto Balsamico di Modena is entrusted to an authorized and independent control body, directly appointed by the Italian Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry (MIPAAF): CSQA Certifications.
Promotion begins with engagement: with those who already know Aceto Balsamico di Modena IGP and with those who are still learning how to recognize it, both in Italy and around the world.
The Consortium develops communication, promotional, and product enhancement activities through informational campaigns, events, media relations, and consumer-focused initiatives. These efforts aim to highlight the product’s characteristics, its connection to the local area, and the value of its Geographical Indication, while also combating phenomena such as Italian Sounding.
But promotion also means looking to the future by supporting initiatives focused on environmental, social, and economic sustainability and by highlighting the best practices adopted by businesses. This includes initiatives dedicated to culinary tourism.
The Consortium actively contributes to the development of the designation, while respecting the identity of Aceto Balsamico di Modena IGP and responding to the evolving needs of the market and society.
It provides:
with the goal of supporting businesses and strengthening the value of the designation over time.
This commitment also includes promoting the product’s image, expanding its commercial reach, and developing services and initiatives that enhance the Geographical Indication in its area of origin.
The Consortium also supports current and future producers through consulting, training, and the sharing of best-practice guidance, helping make the supply chain increasingly informed, recognizable, and sustainable.
