THE ITALIAN VINEGAR PLANT WEEKEND IS PRESENTED IN MODENA

The countdown is on for Italian Vinegar Plant, the main event that on Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 September will make of Modena the centre of the gourmet world with a new edition of Open Vinegar Plants, which this year will also have an original preview on Saturday 27.
The event, organized by the Consorzio di Tutela Aceto Balsamico di Modena and the Consorzio di Tutela Aceto Balsamico Tradizionale di Modena under the patronage of the Municipality of Modena, will involve 39 vinegar plants of the province of Modena. The detailed two-day programme was presented this morning at the Municipality of Modena with the Director of the Consorzio di Tutela Aceto Balsamico di Modena, Federico Desimoni, the President of the Consorzio di Tutela Aceto Balsamico Tradizionale di Modena, Enrico Corsini, the Councillor for Economic Activities and Promotion of the Municipality of Modena, Tommaso Rotella, the President of Palatipico, Pierluigi Sciolette, the President of the Albinelli Market, Luigi Savoia, and the President of Consortium Modena at the Table, Luca Marchini.

“With 92% of the product exported, Balsamic Vinegar of Modena (Aceto Balsamico di Modena) represents one of the most appreciated quality products in the Made-in-Italy food and wine sector in the world– explained the Director of the Consorzio di Tutela Aceto Balsamico Tradizionale di Modena, Federico Desimoni – and our ambition is that of succeeding in selling the culture, tradition and history of the territory of Modena together with the product. With its origins stretching back thousands of years, Balsamic Vinegar is deeply rooted both in the history and in the territory and one of the objectives of Italian Vinegar Plant, and in particular of Open Vinegar Plants, is that of giving visitors the opportunity of immersing themselves in this fascinating atmosphere and learning to experience Balsamic Vinegar not just as a condiment but as a truly multi-sensorial and emotional experience, and as the “genius” of the producers of these territories, who have succeeded in building a very significant economic and social sector at the domestic and international level”.

“This event – added Enrico Corsini, President of the Consorzio di Tutela Aceto Balsamico Tradizionale di Modena – organized to celebrate not only the product, but also the culture, history and tradition of Modena, the potential of its territory, its citizens and its specialty products, represents an opportunity to offer a small contribution to the productive enterprises and socio-cultural fabric of our city and, at the same time, to send out a message ahead of the upcoming great cultural event, Expo 2015”.

“We share the aims of this initiative and of the Consortia – declared Tommaso Rotella, Councillor for Economic Activities and Promotion of the Municipality of Modena as we firmly believe that the “black gold of Modena”, whose unique and extraordinary nature holds high the name of our city in the world, encapsulates the cultural and social values of the Modena territory. An outstanding product among quality products, it will certainly be one of the assets with which Modena will attract visitors at Expo 2015.”

This presentation highlighted a series of side activities that will act as a framework, and in some cases as a preview to, the initiative Open Vinegar Plants. Among the new events this year, the most “original” one is undoubtedly the one scheduled for Saturday 27 in the historic centre of Modena – in XX Settembre Square –, which will bring to light the more philosophical and “spiritual” side of Balsamic Vinegar with the encounter Food, Philosophy and Spirituality: tasting in every sense, organized in collaboration with the Albinelli Market of Modena. A real talk show, conducted by the Director of the Consorzio di Tutela Aceto Balsamico di Modena, Federico Desimoni, with the participation of chef Carlo Alberto Borsarini, advisor to the Consortium Modena at the Table, the philosopher Tullio Gregory, who will discuss “Questions of taste” with the scientific director of the Consortium for the Philosophy Festival, Michelina Borsari, the director Piero Cannizzaro, author of the documentary “The food of the soul”, and the Jesuit Father Jean Paul Hernandez, in charge of the University Chapel at the La Sapienza University of Rome,  who will talk about “Eating: a spiritual exercise”. The event will be preceded by “balsamic refreshments” and followed by a “balsamic aperitif”, both serving Modena PDO and PGI products.

Three new events will accompany the Open Vinegar Plants day in the 39 participating farmhouses: in line with the trend of the moment, Open Vinegar Plants launches the “Selfie in the vinegar plant” competition, to which all visitors can participate with a picture taken in one of the 39 vinegar plants. The best “Selfie” will receive a nice surprise award, and so will those visitors who will give a “sporting” dimension to the event by arriving on their bikes, as explained in the program of the initiative “Cycling in the vinegar plant”.

Finally, in a few farmhouses there will be tastings of typical local products enriched by the precious vinegars, and chefs of the Consortium for Modena at the Table will give advice, through stimulating cooking shows, on how to bring out the best of Balsamic Vinegar in the kitchen.
