Founded in 1993, the Consortium for the Protection of Balsamic Vinegar of Modena has been committed since the beginning for the registration of the denomination as a Protected Geographical Indication, obtained in July 2009. In 2014 the Consortium received the official assignment for the protection of Balsamic Vinegar of Modena PGI from the Italian Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies.

The Protection Consortium is the guardian of the product specifications and a key discussion partner in all questions concerning the product at the regulatory level. It is also its “voice”, in the sense that, through dialogue with the institutions, media and the final consumers, it promotes knowledge about Balsamic Vinegar of Modena (Aceto Balsamico di Modena) and enhances its culture.

Today the Protection Consortium brings together 51 companies in the sector and represents 80% of the annual certified production of Balsamic Vinegar of Modena (Aceto Balsamico di Modena).
